Solid Spills
Remove as much of the substance as possible – the more you can remove, the less likely you are to spread it into your carpet fibres or for it to permeate deep into the pile. Then use my technique outlined above using hot water and a towel.
DO NOT RUB!
Do not be tempted to scrub away furiously as any substance remaining on the carpet could be pushed deeper into your carpet fibres and will likely damage the carpet which will be visible once it is dry.
Keep diluting and blotting the stain as described above until you have removed what is possible of the stain.
Then try to remove as much water from the carpet as possible by using a dry towel and a heavy weight; you standing on it will do the job! It is far better to dilute the stain as much as possible than to allow it to ‘dry in’ as once it dries the chances of it becoming a permanent stain increase dramatically.
